Spaide R.I.P.PE.R. Goes the Extra Mile
The native St. Louisian continues to outdistanced the competition among his rap brethren by consistently doing the shows most fellow rappers are not privy to do
June 21st, 2005--St. Louis--Rapper Spaide R.I.P.P.E.R. had a busy Father’s Day weekend as the self proclaimed People’s Champ of St. Louis concluded a bevy of weeklong live performances throughout the metro to promote his current release Dat New Dirty.
The dreadlocked MC dropped by Downtown St. Louis’ trendy nightclub Plush Monday night to perform his lead single “Always” as part of comedian’s Darrius Bradford’s weekly laugh out loud comedy show, An Evening With Darrius Bradford.
Just 24 hours earlier, the rapper known throughout the industry for the ability to lace entire songs without using explicit lyrics, hosted a Father’s Day Celebration with another native comedian, St. Louis Slim, at the venerable Spruill’s Restaurant and Lounge on North Jefferson Avenue in north St. Louis.
Saturday, Spaide introduced “Always” to over three hundred football fans at Cardinal Ritter High School during halftime of a semi-pro game between the St. Louis Bulldogs and the Missouri Wildcats; enthusiastically signing pics and autographs for the youngsters in attendance after the stadium announcer played the 12 inch piece of vinyl.
Spaide started the week off by hosting a show at Clayton’s High Point Theatre last Tuesday (June 14th) and continued the week with pit stops in various venues throughout south, north, west and east St. Louis.
Fala Beats Heats the Streets
The local beat maker continues to ride the wave of being featured on Nelly’s The Longest Yard Soundtrack
St. Louis--Music producer Fala Beats, who is on a mission to drop local from his introduction, has unleashed a marketing plan for all independent record labels to marvel at as it relates to the distribution of their music and products.
Linking up with St. Louis’ infamous crime fighting publication The Evening Whirl, Fala and TPC Distribution has agreed to exclusively release a series of Fala Beats’ produced albums in the 400 or so retail outlets that currently carry the newspaper.
The first release, Fala’s On Tha Grind, sold over 500 copies the first official week on sale. On Tha Grind features rap heavyweights such as Murphy Lee, Lil’ Wayne, King Jacob, Payback, Potzee, Lil’ Mont, IPC and more. The CD is considered the antithesis to the radio friendly, pop rap that has pervaded the area scene since the aforementioned Nelly broke loose with Country Grammar.
“There is another side of St. Louis the rest of the country has yet too see,” says Fala Beats, “the street side. All of the artist on the album represent the street sound, but it’s more to the music then just shoot ‘em up, bang, bang. These guys actually have the talent to rap about countless things, but we’re going after the gutta, gutta music with this album. That’s way we’ve hooked up with The Whirl. The people that read The Whirl are the people we want to buy this album.”
Introducing Spanysh Fli
Just when we thought Eboni Eyes and Chocolate Thai were all the Lou had to offer comes another microphone grabbing, rhyme spitting sex kitten.
St. Louis, MO---Female rapper and north St. Louis native Spanysh Fli is scheduled to perform live Monday, June 27th as part of the Spice 1 concert at the Lou’s newest nightlife creation The Vault.
The twenty-five year old mother of three has been hitting the chitlin’ (underground) circuit tough the last couple of seasons and is now weighing major contract offers from Warner Brothers and Snoop Dogg’s label, Doggyhouse Records.
Fli, as she is known throughout the recording industry, plans to give music fans at the June 27th date a taste of R&B laced vocals and gritty wordplay over bass heavy beats, an concoction that has label insiders whispering about Fli’s ability to become a female version of the late great Tupac Shakur.
Lil’ Mont, Joka, Ruka Puff and more are also scheduled to perform at The Vault as St. Louis welcomes legendary Bay Area rapper Spice 1, who had a string of urban hits in the mid to late nineties, to the Midwest.
